Desk research on a single subject is slow for a plain reason: there is a lot to read. Company filings, court orders, news reports, social media, and whatever the team has already seized or collected. Most of an investigator's day goes on reading and cross-checking, not on judgement.
A tool that does this reading should not need the investigator to sit and watch it. Anvexer is built so that it does not.
The work runs on the server
Anvexer is a web application. Investigators use it from their browsers, but the heavy work runs on the server, in the background.
An investigator opens a case, names the subject, sets up the research plan and starts it. From that point the server does the work: reading uploaded files, searching, reading what it finds, and recording findings. The investigator can close the browser, go to a meeting, or go home. The run continues. When they come back, the results are waiting.
You can see what is happening
A run is not a black box while it is going. The case console shows the progress of each step as it runs. Findings are recorded as they are made, not only at the end, so a run that is half-way through already has useful results.
Stopping and resuming
Sometimes a run needs to stop: the plan was wrong, a better lead came in, or the server is needed for something else. Stopping a case winds down the research that is in progress and keeps what it has found so far. Nothing already found is thrown away.
The case can then be resumed, and the run continues from where it was.
Many cases at once
Because the work runs on the server, one investigator is not limited to one case at a time. Several cases can have research running while the team works on something else.
Built for a team, not a single user
Cases are shared by team. Each case has its own access control, so only the people assigned to it can see it. The same case can be worked on by several analysts from their own browsers, each seeing the same evidence, findings and dossier.
Your data stays on your server
Anvexer is installed on the agency's own server or workstation. Case files, findings and dossiers are stored there. It can also run with no internet connection at all, working only on the files the team uploads.
Frequently asked questions
Does the investigator's computer need to stay on?
No. Research runs on the server. The investigator's browser only shows the results.
What happens if the server restarts during a run?
Runs record their progress as they go and can be resumed. Findings already made are kept.
Can research run without an internet connection?
Yes. In offline mode, Anvexer works only on the documents the team has uploaded. Open-web research is not available in that mode.
